A journalist investigating organized crime shot dead in Greece. Although the motive for the murder is unknown, the police believe that it is an execution perpetrated by hired killers.

The Greek journalist Yorgos Karaivaz , a reporter for the private television Star and several media specialized in criminal information, was assassinated this Friday, shot dead outside his home in Athens . According to the first information, Karaivaz received numerous shots, as he had 5 to 6 bullet wounds in his body and at least 15 shells have been found in the place. The journalist was assaulted when he had just parked his car after returning from work on the private channel Star at around two in the afternoon. His lifeless body was found next to the car parked in a small park near his home.

Police have launched an extensive search operation to find the perpetrators, who were apparently on a motorcycle and fled the scene immediately after the attack.

According to the first police data collected by the media , the journalist had not stated that he had received threats and had never submitted a request for police custody.

The journalist not only worked for the aforementioned chain but also for the written press and also had a website specialized in police investigation.

International condemnation
The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis , on Saturday asked the head of Civil Protection, Mijalis Jrisojoidis, to accelerate the investigation into the shooting murder of Karaivaz.

The president of the European Commission (EC), Ursula Von der Leyen , and the president of the European Parliament, David Sassoli , have expressed their condemnation of the journalist’s death as a “despicable” act and have asked the Justice to urgently clarify this crime.
